Lukas Van Loggerenberg is one of SA’s most exciting new winemakers. He was named 2018 Young Winemaker of the Year by Tim Atkin. His wines are only available only in small quantities, with the previous vintages having sold out in a flash.

Tasting notes:
'Syrah from Polkadraai Hills in 2018, drops the cinsaut of 2017 (4.5 stars, 93 pts) & earlier. Dry spiciness, with ripe plum fruit plus brightness of wholebunch ferment. Elegant, light-feeling, almost ethereal, yet with commanding presence. Dry, firm but melting tannins. Great length. Deserves time.' – Platter’s Guide 2020, 5* (95/100)

'This vintage is exclusively from Syrah whereas the maiden 2017 contained a significant portion of Cinsault. 100% whole-bunch fermentation and matured for nine months in French oak, a third new. The nose shows a slight smoky note before dark fruit and pepper. The palate is forceful due to fruit density rather than high alcohol or extraction, the tannins firm and crunchy and again this probably needs at least 12 months in bottle to come into its own..' – Christian Eedes, Winemag, 92/100

Winemakers notes:
'The name has several meanings to me. It is not only a reminder of some sage advice from my grandfather who always told me that if you want to make a success of something you need to put in the hard yards and graft (symbolized by the man working in the top left hand corner) but also symbolizes how two individual parts can be grafted together to form a stronger and more meaningful whole as shown by the vines being grafted together. The honeybee and finch are both very hardworking and despite not always knowing if what they are doing will work still graft and get it done. The stamp symbolizes our South African heritage.' – Lukas Van Loggerenberg, Wine maker
